What Components Make Up an LED Neon Sign?
LED neon signs are typically made from the following components:
LED Neon Tubes: These tubes are the heart and soul of your neon artwork, emitting bright and vibrant light. Also known as Neon Flex, they are made from LED (light-emitting diode) Strips enclosed in flexible materials, typically silicon or PVC, to form the outer neon-like tube. This tubing provides protection, diffuses the light from the LED strips, and mimics the appearance of traditional glass neon tubing. LED Neon tubing is available in various colors and attaches to your sign’s backing to create various letters, shapes and designs.
Backing Board: This is the foundation for your neon sign, offering support and stability. It’s typically made from 5mm thick acrylic, that is cut to various configurations - full board, cut-to-shape, minimal, or boxed - to suit different designs and preferences. The backing also provides the necessary surface for securing the neon tubes, and for installing your sign.
Remote and Dimmer: The remote and dimmer work together to offer wireless control of your LED neon sign. Through the remote, you can control the signs functionality, allowing you to turn the sign on and off, adjust brightness, and select different lighting modes (flashing, fading, static, etc.). Additionally, for RGB color-changing signs, it also allows you to select different colors and dynamic color modes.
Power Supply: The power supply, also known as a transformer or adapter, ensures a steady and safe power supply to your LED neon sign. It converts standard electrical outlet power (usually 120V to 240V AC) into a lower voltage (typically 12V DC) to power your sign.
Power Amplifier: This device may be used to boost the power of the LED signal in large or complex signs. They help maintain consistent brightness across the entire sign, especially when many colors are used, or the sign is split into multiple sections. Most LED neon signs do not require a power amplifier but will be supplied with one or more if necessary.
Wiring and Connectors: These components provide the necessary electrical connections between the neon tubes, power supply, power amplifier and dimmer, ensuring seamless operation of the sign.
Installation Hardware: Depending on the sign’s design and intended use, it may come with mounting screws, hanging wire, hanging strips or a stand. This enables easy installation on walls, ceilings or other surfaces.
